Sustainability and Circular Manufacturing

Sustainable Manufacturing

In the spirit of ‘better lighting for people and planet’, Eagle Lighting has been designing, testing and manufacturing customised lighting for 50 years.

Circular manufacturing was the next step in our sustainability programme.

Our Vitality range of products are manufactured by strictly following circular manufacturing principles and guidelines.

Our New Circular Products

Our purpose is to improve people's lives with lighting solutions that make a positive impact on their environment.

We promote our core values of Collaboration, Quality and Respect through an emphasis on innovation and continuous improvement.

As an industry leader, we work with our partners to ensure the highest standards of environmental and human rights protection are maintained across our supply chain.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals reinforce our vision

Our vision and values are reinforced through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The SDGs are a universal framework of 17 goals aimed at achieving ambitious sustainability targets at a national and global level. The SDGs focus on environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

We undertook an internal stakeholder engagement process with the help of thinkstep-anz. We assessed which of the 17 SDGs best relate to our value chain, areas of influence, business operations, and the needs and expectations of our stakeholders. This resulted in a selection of five core SDGs.

Sustainability at Eagle Lighting

True sustainability is a balance of environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

Eagle Lighting defines sustainability as the balance of all three objectives and seeks to achieve the best environmental and social outcomes in the context of essential commercial viability.

Social: We do the right thing by our staff, customers, and supply chain

Environmental: Our focus is on energy efficiency, lower-impact manufacturing, and circularity

Economic: We produce quality products and offer economic benefits for customers — promoting fairness across our supply chain

We harness energy-efficient technologies

Our use of LED technology means our customers receive the best use of precious energy and materials. LEDs provide greater energy efficiency and can remain in service for tens of thousands of hours.

Our new solar panel project at our Melbourne facility aims to improve energy efficiency in our own operations.

We have a progressive life cycle approach to design and manufacturing

We regularly invest in innovative technologies and consider the full life cycle of our products. We are currently working towards ‘closing the loop’ on our manufacturing processes.

We prioritise low-impact materials and are ISO14001 certified.

We maximise reuse and resource efficiency by designing modularity into our luminaires.

Our whole organisation understands our sustainability ambitions

We partnered with thinkstep-anz to develop a common understanding of sustainability within our organisation.

Using the UN SDGs as a platform, we have developed a sustainability approach that our whole organisation can understand and be proud of.

Furthermore, our approach aligns with our sister brands from the global Fagerhult Group.

We remain accountable through certifications and responsible procurement

Eagle Lighting is certified to ISO 9001 – Quality Management Systems.

Our Responsible Procurement Framework has been integrated into our quality management system, setting a high standard for our own and our suppliers’ environmental and social performance. The framework ensures values are aligned across our whole supply chain and encourages improvement where necessary. This process is supported by Eagle Lighting’s Supplier Code of Conduct.

Our research and development prioritises healthy lighting solutions

Our luminaires are used in a wide range of contexts, from educational facilities and office buildings to outdoor public spaces.

Our research and development lab explores lighting ergonomics to promote good health and wellbeing.

SDG 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all

Eagle Lighting aims to provide reliable and affordable lighting solutions for all sectors while continuing to develop new lighting technologies that support long term sustainability.

We are transitioning to the use of renewable energy resources and improving the energy efficiency of our manufacturing and product range.

SDG 10: Reduced inequalities

Eagle Lighting values equality for all people and promotes diversity and inclusion in all their forms. We endeavour to protect the rights of the vulnerable and enhance opportunities for minority groups.

We give preference to suppliers who demonstrate active management and promotion of diversity, inclusion, human rights including Modern Slavery protection, health and safety, responsible labour practices, legal and fair operating practices, ethical conduct, and community investment in their businesses and supply chain.

SDG 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

We regularly cooperate with Government and other organisations to encourage more energy-efficient cities and support innovative technologies that contribute to sustainable building and energy infrastructure.

We provide lighting technologies and solutions for use in commercial, educational, and various indoor and outdoor applications. These are essential to building and supporting the optimisation of sustainable energy infrastructure.

SDG 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

We develop innovative lighting technologies that use sustainable materials and reduce the impact over the products’ life cycle — from manufacturing to end-of-life phases. Tools such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), help us understand the environmental, social, and economic impacts of our products.

We are striving to minimise waste in operations, including packaging and throughout the supply chain.

SDG 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

Our organisation plays a critical role in creating innovative lighting solutions that assist in reducing global warming potential by lowering net carbon emissions. We can contribute to reducing climate change impacts by continuously improving the energy efficiency of our lighting technologies while working with our partners to reduce the carbon footprint of our supply chain.

While some companies only pay lip service to the idea of operating in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner, Eagle Lighting takes its environmental footprint seriously.

EcoVadis Sustainability Rating

Eagle Lighting is proud to be awarded again an EcoVadis 'Silver Sustainability Rating'.
