Lighting Design: NDYLIGHT

Eagle Lighting Australia were specified by NDYLIGHT (Norman, Disney and Young) for the new transport interchange as part of the Monash University Learning and Teaching Building.  Designplan Lighting, our UK sister company and robust lighting specialist within the Fagerhult Group, provided a lighting solution perfect for this challenging environment.

The interchange creates a vibrant new front door to the campus from Wellington Road. It delivers a world-class sustainable public transport hub with improved integration of bus, cyclist and pedestrian services.

As a critical public transport connection, it will support the University’s rapidly expanding role as a regional destination, and will provide enhanced sustainable and active transport options for staff, students and visitors.

Heat and durability were major considerations. The Flair was tested to function efficiently in 40°C temperatures. This feature, combined with the protective skin of oven-baked finish and backed up by the 5 year warranty, guaranteed its suitability for the installation.

As part of our customer focus and to ensure complete satisfaction, we developed custom colour paint to match Monash University signature shades of grey and blue. On installation these colours emulate the contemporary Learning and Teaching Building, creating a uniform elegant appearance.

Our ability to provide a quick on time delivery demonstrated the strength of the relationship between Designplan and Eagle Lighting. This collaboration is in line with the ethos of Monash to work together to enable staff and students to maximise opportunities. Monash’s commitment to sustainability is a key factor in this development and was an integral part of the specification.

As a manufacturer of long lasting luminaires, our commitment to the environment is evident in both design and manufacture. Although not a high vandal area, the robust Flair with an IK16 rating, resisting up to 150 Joules, ensured peace of mind and longevity. The IP65 rating was essential to the product selection. Due to the high volume of buses using the interchange, there is a considerable amount of exhaust fumes which needed to be considered and the requirement to meet the Australian Standards AS1158.3.1 Category 6. An important component of the Flair LED was the louvre which reduced glare and created a good uniformity of light and enhanced wayfinding.
